Apart from the above two great Companions, Abu Hurairah, Jabir (R) and other Companions were also found to have cut off an extra part of the beard. This proves that the beard should be kept at least a handful. It is haraam and a grave sin not to have a beard, to shave or to keep less than a handful. The beard that is shaved or shortened to less than a handful of beards is rewritten until the beard is once again a handful. Because the command of the law is to keep at least one beard. Therefore, if the beard is shortened or shaved, it will be considered as disobedience to the Shari'ah until the beard is a handful and sin will be written in his name.
