On the days of Qurbani (from 10 Zilhaj Fajr to 12 Zilhaj Sunset) Qurbani becomes obligatory if one possesses additional wealth of fifty-two and a half rupees or its equivalent. Sacrifice is not obligatory if one has less wealth than this. (Ahkamul Quran, Jassas 3/128; Almuhitul Burhani 6/455) It is to be noted that the value of money, gold and silver ornaments, business goods, additional land required, unnecessary furniture which is not used throughout the year are calculated in the case of Qurbani Nesab. So if you have the current value of the money you have deposited and the additional assets you need, the Qurbani is obligatory on you. Otherwise it is not obligatory. Many virtues of Qurbani have been described in Hadith. As it is said in a hadith, there is no deed dearer to Allah than animal sacrifice on the day of sacrifice (Jame Tirmidhi, Hadith: 1/160) There is another hadith, Hazrat Ali. He said, "The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, asked Fatima to be present at his sacrifice and said, 'As soon as the first drop of blood flows from this sacrifice, Allah will forgive your sins.'
