It is mustahab to answer the call to prayer orally and it is obligatory to answer it effectively, that is, to attend the congregational prayers So it is wrong not to appear in the congregation with a verbal reply. It will be a sin to make obligatory arguments. It is also mustahab to answer iqamah in this way. However, if the Azan-Iqamat is not in the Sunnah way, then it is not sinful not to give a verbal answer to that Azan-Iqamat.
