Why not? The verses instructing the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) to recite the darood were revealed to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him). It was revealed in front of the disciples. Then the first Companions did the deeds as directed by Allah. And the Prophet is as good as the Companions and no one can live till the Day of Resurrection. Will the Companions not recite Darood on the Prophet (peace be upon him) there? And it is clear from the hadith that the darood is Ibrahimi where the darood is recited on the Prophet (peace be upon him). Which our beloved Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) himself recited in the prayer, and all the Companions also recited it. Which bears great evidence of the recitation of darood in the time of the Prophet (peace be upon him). ِّنَّ اللَّهَ وَمَلَائِكَتَهُ يُصَلُّونَ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ۚ يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا صَلُّوا عَلَيْهِ وَسَلُِمُوا تَسْلِمًا God and His angels show mercy to the Prophet. O you who believe! Pray for mercy for the Prophet and send greetings to him. [Surah Ahzab-58] قال عبد الله: كنا إذا صلينا خلف النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم, قلنا: السلام على جبريل وميكائيل السلام على فلان وفلان, فالتفت إلينا رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم فقال: "إن الله هو السلام, فإذا صلى أحدكم, فليقل: التحيات لله والصلوات والطيبات, السلام عليك أيها النبي ورحمة الله وبركاته, السلام علينا وعلى عباد الله الصالحين, فإنكم إذا قلتموها أصابت كل عبد لله صالح في السماء والأرض, أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وأشهد أن محمدا عبده ورسوله Hazrat Abdullah bin Masood (may Allah be pleased with him) said: When we used to pray behind the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), we would say "Assalamu Ala Jibril wa Mikail and Assalamu Ala Fulan wa Fulaan". Then the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) looked at us and said, 'Peace be upon you.' So when one of you prays, let him say, Attahiyyatu lillahi wassalawatu wat tayyibatu assalamu alayka ayuhan nabiyu warahmatullahi wabarakatuhu, assalamu alaina wa ala ibadillahis salihin.
