According to the Qur'an and Hadith, if the reward is given to the dead by asking for forgiveness and giving alms, it will benefit them and their sins will be forgiven. Rather, it is in the hadith, they are waiting to get these from their relatives. So when the relatives reap the rewards, Allah multiplies them and delivers them to them. The following is the evidence of the Qur'an-Hadith in this regard: It has been narrated in the Holy Qur'an: Those who came after them (the Muhajireen and the Ansar) say: “Our Lord! Forgive us and our brethren who are foremost in the faith, and do not harbor any hatred in your hearts against the believers. O our Lord! You are the Most Merciful, the Most Compassionate. ” (Surat al-Hashr: 10) Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas agreed. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The condition of the dead in the grave is like that of a person who seeks help by drowning in deep water. (He is desperate to save himself.) In the same way, the dead person is always waiting for a prayer and supplication from his parents, siblings, relatives and friends for his release. What? When a dua arrives from one of them, that dua gives them more joy than the world and everything in between. And Allaah has not reached the people of the graves with the reward of multiplying the mountains for the people of the world. Therefore, the best gift for the dead on behalf of the living is to pray and ask forgiveness for them. ” (Mishkat Sharif: 205 pages) When the mother of Hazrat Sa'd Ibn Ubada Razi passed away, she was away (somewhere) from her mother. Then he said to the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, O Messenger of Allah! I was away from her at the time of my mother's death. Now if I do something on his behalf, will it benefit him? The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Yes, it will be useful. He said, “O Messenger of Allah! I am telling you as a witness, I donated my garden called 'Mikhraf' for my mother's reward. (Bukhari Sharif, p. 1/38) Hazrat Maqil Ibn Yasar agrees. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Recite Surah Ya-seen over your dead.” (Mishkat al-Sharif: 141 pages) Hazrat Abu Hurairah agreed. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Allaah will increase the status of (many) righteous servants in Paradise. (Seeing that) the servant will be astonished and will ask Allah - O Allah! Where is this dignity for me and how did I get it? Allaah says (interpretation of the meaning): “This is the recompense for the forgiveness of your children.” Hazrat Jaber agreed. He said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) slaughtered two sheep on the day of sacrifice.
