Death anniversary and birth anniversary in the eyes of Islam 9966875376
Monthly Al Kawthar•permissible•
Question
There is very little practice in our area to celebrate someone's birth anniversary and death anniversary. A few days ago, a scholar from Dhaka issued a fatwa stating that it is permissible to observe the death anniversaries and birth anniversaries of all people, including the Prophet (peace be upon him). As a result, everyone in our area is in a dilemma. Therefore, I am specifically requesting you to benefit us by mentioning the Shariah documents to solve this problem. 1217282127

The scholar in question is not right. It is not the teaching of Islam to observe birth anniversaries and death anniversaries. These are foreign cultures. Muslims must refrain from all these unnecessary acts. There is no special significance in the Shari'ah for the day of birth or the day of death. Especially on this day there is no provision of any kind of deed or worship. And it is lawful for the dead to be rewarded in Isa. However, there is no specific date for this. Rather, at any time or day, thawab can be done in Islah through supererogatory prayers, alms-giving, dua, etc. If you do it on a certain day or time, you will get a special reward - not that. Even in the golden age of the Salaf Salehin, there is no evidence of arranging such thawabs for the dead on certain days. So it is not lawful to celebrate birthday, death day or any other related event. Similarly, the observance of the birthday and death of the Prophet (peace be upon him) is not proved by any document of the Shari'ah. If it were permissible, then after the death of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) the Companions would have been the foremost. Because undoubtedly their love for the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) was much greater than that of the latter. But since they were well acquainted with the method of expressing this love, they have resorted to all these methods, which are Sunnah-guided. There is no evidence from any of the Companions to celebrate birthdays and death ceremonies to express love. Similarly, it was not practiced in the era of Tabein and Tabein. It is revealed that the arrival of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) is the greatest mercy and happiness for us. Praying for him by remembering him and sending darood and salam on the one hand is like worship and on the other hand is a cause of blessing in our life. And discussing his life style and implementing it in our lives is an expression of true love for him. But it has to be in the way that the Companions have implemented in their lives. In no way can these deeds be associated with any particular month or day; Rather, it will be a part of the believer's life. He will recite Darood-e-Sharif on the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) every day outside the prayers. And will lead his life according to his ideals and Sunnah. This will prove his love for Allah and His Messenger. Allaah says in the Qur'aan: Say, "If you love Allah, then follow me, I love you, and I will forgive you for your sins, and Allah is Forgiving, Merciful." Say, "If you love God, then follow me, and God will love you and forgive you your sins." GOD is Forgiver, Most Merciful. [Surah Al 'Imran (3): 31)] 4524696677
