(718-791) According to the chain of hadiths, they became shaykhs, followed by Tabee, then Tabee, then Sahabi, and finally Rasulullah SAW. The scholarly and practical behavior of these four types of shaykhs was well known. Because of Ikhlas and Lillahiyat, Allah Ta'ala gave them wide fame and fame. Likewise, the 4 ways of Tasawwuf are not Sunnah. No it is a must. Rather, it is nothing more than a helpful method to make the religion brought by the Prophet PBUH into one's own practice, to fully observe the provisions of the Shari'ah. One cannot start running after him just by seeing him. First check whether he is a good person or a fraud. He is the friend of Allah and the Messenger and not the friend of Satan.
