Fatawa is an Arabic word. The literal meaning of fatwa is to answer any question, whether it is related to the Shari'ah rules or something else. Later, this word has been used exclusively for answering Shariah questions. In Islamic terminology, the answer to a religious question based on the Qur'an and Sunnah is called a fatwa.
